Here at NextGen 5.0 we seek to reach, empower, and connect the next generation of global leaders in order to promote innovation.

 

To fulfill our mission, we have developed a comprehensive four-pronged approach that engages young people in meaningful work that challenges them to develop the professional skills necessary to compete in today's global job market. By way of such opportunities, they will gain the experience and connections required to move on to increasingly important positions in the academic or policy-making spheres and have the chance to contribute fresh ideas and solutions addressing the world's greatest challenges.

1. REACH

Increasing international youth involvement in peace and security studies is the heart of our work. In order to tackle emerging global threats, the world needs the active participation of the best and brightest from across the world. Through a combination of outreach campaigns on social media, university partnerships and events, and the work of a motivated cadre of international ambassadors, NextGen 5.0 is identifying and recruiting students, recent graduates, and young professionals all across the globe that have the potential to make important contributions to the field.

2. EMPOWER

We aim to foster the development of our members’ skills, and interests by offering access to training, internships, funding assistance, and more. Additionally, by providing opportunities to gain hands-on experience in competencies including critical thinking, decision-making, resource management, and interpersonal communication, our members will be empowered to reach their full potential as agents of change and compete in today’s global job market. These combined efforts will contribute to building an international youth cadre who have the skills required to succeed in a wide variety of roles in the research, policy-making, and consulting realms.

3. CONNECT

One of the biggest challenges for any graduate is finding the right position. A variety of factors ranging from weak links to the job market to an underdeveloped domestic security studies field can prove obstacles to young job-seekers across the world. We believe that one of the best ways to remedy this problem is connecting people. Through an ongoing dialogue with the public and private sector, we will identify opportunities and connect these employers to members whose backgrounds, skills, and expertise match their needs. By linking young experts with their colleagues abroad as well as researchers, practitioners, and institutions, NextGen 5.0 will act as the central hub for international collaboration on issues concerning peace and security. 

4. INNOVATE

In the rapidly changing political and social environment, we believe that young people can be powerful catalysts for positive change and contributors of novel security solutions to current and future global challenges. The key to this lies in providing a venue in which they can obtain the training, experience, and connections required to both prove their abilities and make themselves heard. NextGen 5.0 intends to fulfill this role by providing opportunities for its members to become involved in conducting applied research aimed at addressing real-world problems, thereby fostering the development of skills and experience that span the traditional dividing line of academic and practitioner.
