Chiara graduated from Georgetown University with an MA in Security Studies, where she focused on terrorism, counterinsurgency, transnational crime, cybersecurity, energy security, and the growing political role of multinational corporations. She also obtained her BA in Political Science at LUISS Guido Carli University.

Chiara’s professional experiences include internships at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen; at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism; and at the Modern War Institute.

She has also worked as teaching assistant for Dr. Daniel Byman’s undergraduate course on Terrorism and Counterterrorism, as programming fellow for Georgetown’s Center for Security Studies curating events on national security, and as research assistant for Dr. Kimberley Roberts and for the ‘dean of terrorism studies,” Walter Laqueur. Chiara has also served as Special Assistant to the Dean of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.

Chiara’s published works have focused on the link between ungoverned territories and terrorism, using Boko Haram in Nigeria as a case study, and on a multilateral approach to counterinsurgency, analyzing NATO in Afghanistan. Her MA and BA theses, instead, respectively addressed counterinsurgency in urban settings and Islamic State’s use of social media.
